When you have a start up business there is so much to think about. In this video, Mark Glenister looks at whether and when you should work with a lawyer.

No Sound? Here’s the transcript….

Do I really need a lawyer?

Why not just get something from the web and fill in the blanks?

I can’t recommend that, but if you are going to do it at least make sure that the agreement is governed by English law. Because agreements that were originally written for an American company were designed to be used in the states not here in the UK.

So if you’re weighing up the advantages and disadvantages of involving a lawyer the main advantage of not involving one is that that’s free but what are the disadvantages of taking that approach?

Well, are you really sure that the agreement that you got from the web is robust and fit for purpose? How much of your valuable time will it take to try to draft a contract when you could be out selling goods and services to your customers and clients?
